What kind of church is Spiro First Assembly of God?
We're a church passionate about our faith, engaged in our community, and eager to minister to your spiritual needs. It is important to us for you to know that Jesus loves you with a real, strong and fervent love. Through various ministries, we're engaged in our community showing the love of Jesus Christ. We want to live out His Truth, accept His call on our lives, and worship Him heart, mind, body, and soul. We are eager to minister to your spiritual needs, and you can expect to be greeted, welcomed and accepted when you come to connect with God. We believe God will meet you right where you are, and our goal is to extend that same grace and love to you. We'd love for you to unite with our passion to know and serve Christ.
What is Sunday morning like?
Starting at 10:00 am, Children's Church is held in the education building and Pastor's Class meets in the main sanctuary. Worship and prayer follows at 11:00, with songs of praise, offerings, praying for one another, and seeking God at the altar. Children are included in the 11:00 o'clock hour. The message presented in the Pastor's Class will draw you into a deeper walk with Christ, which is why we encourage ministry time at the altar. We expect God to meet our needs and change our lives, to be led by the Word of God and by the Holy Spirit. The operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit are welcomed and practiced among us in freedom of expression and in listening to God speak us.
What should I wear?
We want you to be comfortable! Some people dress in their "Sunday best", and if you're one who likes wearing your Sunday best, great! If you feel more comfortable in casual clothes, you'll fit in just fine! God looks at the heart, and that is how we'd like to get to know you — heart to heart. We encourage you to wear whatever modest clothes you are most comfortable worshipping in.
Is there easy access for persons with disabilities?
Yes. The entrances to the Main Sanctuary and Family Life Center are on the ground floor with ramp access at the Main Sanctuary. Seating is free style with moveable chairs for wheelchair access, and wheelchair assistance is available if needed.
Is a clean, safe nursery provided?
Yes. As you come through the front entrace of the Main Sanctuary, turn to your right and see the nursery at the end of the gathering area. Greeters are eager to help you.
What is the teaching/preaching style?
A fresh, relevant, practical, and creative presentation of the message of Jesus, geared to communicate the Gospel to all ages. Jesus is alive, so we don't think His church should be dead. Whether in Children's Church, the Youth Ministry, or the Pastor's Class, every week we're going to present the problem of sin, and the hope and help found in Jesus that is true to God's Word, but relevant to your life. Do you feel lost? Are you tired of running? Are you ready for a change? Then come meet your new Direction in the person of Jesus Christ.
What is the praise and worship style?
In a word, passionate. There are keyboards, and drums, and guitars, and lots of singing. Sometimes we raise our hands, sometimes we clap, and sometimes there is dancing or shouting before the Lord. Sometimes the praise is loud, sometimes it is soft, and sometimes there's quiet stillness. We don't believe God has a hearing problem, but neither is He dead. Scripture says "in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). Our God is a living, moving, passionate God, and we respond to Him in a passionate way. You'll be blessed with good music, and can choose how much to participate. We won't push, but we won't hold back either!
What is Sunday evening like?
Sunday evening is casual and different from the Sunday morning service. Designed to be a time of fellowship, discipleship teaching, and praying for one another, it meets in the new side of the Family Life Center around the round tables. From 6:30 to 7:15 the kitchen is open where you can get hamburgers, hotdogs, soft drinks, etc., and enjoy fellowship with the church family. At 7:15 there are Adult and Youth Classes, and Children's Activities. This is an excellent time to get acquainted and be part of the fellowship and discipleship training.
What is Wednesday evening like?
Wednesdays are about serving through community outreach and learning through Wednesday in the Word Growth Groups. Beginning at 5:30 pm kitchen volunteers prepare a hot meal which is served to children, youth and staff at 7:00 pm. When school is in session our buses transport children to and from the church. At 7:30 age level classes are held: Adults in Main Sanctuary; Children's Services in Education Building; and Youth Services in the New Side of Family Life Center.
